Electronic Arts has announced its acquisition of Digital Illusions CE, the creators of the Battlefield game franchise.
The Swedish based Digital Illusions CE (DICE) now becomes a fully integrated EA studio dedicated to growing the Battlefield franchise for the PC and next generation consoles.
"EA is thrilled to officially welcome this team of incredibly talented people and a globally recognized game franchise," said Paul Lee, President of EA's Worldwide Studios. "The DICE studio has strong opportunity for growth as we build the Battlefield franchise and other new products. We're confident that our creative approach and business leadership principles are well matched to share future success."
The DICE leadership team will continue in their roles in the Stockholm studio, and Patrick Soderlund, DICE CEO, will become an EA Studio General Manager, maintaining responsibility for the DICE studio.
DICE is currently working on Battlefield 2142 which is scheduled for release for the PC later this month.

What are you talking about? EA are getting worse. Their treatment of BF2 has been disgraceful. BF2 is probably the buggiest and most incomplete game you can buy today. And instead of fixing that they pump out sequels and rip-off "booster packs" for it. Not only that but they make the game worse with each consecutive patch they release for it, opting to add useless game features that nobody wants in favour of fixing bugs that have been there since the game was released.
Needless to say, I'll be boycotting BF2142.
