Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag claimed the UK Video Game Chart No.1 spot, beating EA's Battlefield 4 which had to settle for second place.
However, both games appear to be suffering from current-gen fatigue as the hardcore look ahead to the release of Xbox One and PS4. Neither Assassin's Creed 4 or Battlefield 4 could match the sales of predecessors, Assassin's Creed 3 and Battlefield 3, which achieved the best week one sales for their respective series.
While the margin of victory hasn't been specified by Chart Track, the charts firm does state that Assassin's Creed 4 benefited from its early Tuesday release.
60 per cent of Assassins Creed 4 sales came on Xbox 360, while 55 per cent of Battlefield 4 sales were on the Xbox 360.
FIFA 14 holds on at No.3, while GTA 5 drops two places to No.4. Last week's No.1 Batman: Arkham Origins falls to No.5.
SEGA secures sixth place with Football Manager 2014, although retail sales are down seven per cent over last year's title. Digital sales may, however, tell a different story. WWE 2K14, the first release under its new publisher 2K, is also a new entry at No.7.
Elsewhere, Angry Birds Star Wars re-enters the chart at No.30 thanks to its launch on consoles and handhelds.

With a number of high profile games coming to current and next generation platforms it will be very interesting to see if next-gen sales make up for the reduction in current-gen sales.
Call of Duty: Ghosts hits stores tomorrow and there's no way the game won't claim the No.1 spot, but expect sales to be down on last year's Black Ops 2.
In stores from Friday are Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games and Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, although don't expect either to make the Top 10.
