The next entry in the Batman Arkham franchise will release later this year, Warner Bros. has revealed.

Speaking during the firm's Q4 2012 Results Earnings Call last week (transcribed by Seeking Alpha), Time Warner CFO John Martin revealed that the publisher will "have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise."

The company's fiscal year runs in parallel with the calendar year, so when Martin says "this year" he means 2013.

Further details on the game, including release dates and platforms have yet to be revealed, nor is it known whether developer Rocksteady Studios is still at the helm.

The untitled game will be the third title in the Arkham series, following the release of Batman: Arkham City in October 2011.

The series has achieved great critical and commercial success, with the two previous entries winning multiple Game of the Year awards from critics, as well as additional accolades, including a BAFTA award and a 10/10. has contacted Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios for comment.

Depends on how much they try to 'innovate' I guess, tough to improve on almost any aspect of AC I would say. The hints dropped in AC about where a third one could go were potentially a bit out there (specifically the Azrael stuff).

Be great to see some of the lesser-used baddies get meatier roles - Hush and Black Mask especially.

What are the odds they make it a prequel so that they can shoehorn the Joker in somehow?

It isn't Rocksteady who is developing this. I will watch and see if the team can match Rockateady's superb craftsman ship of a great Batman game.

All I ask for is classic 'Blammo', 'Thwa-pish', and 'Krunk' effects flash up whenever you lay out some smackdown!

I'm really hoping it's this gen, it would be nice to include it with Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed for a finished story as well.

Cant wait for this, we knew it was coming but hearing the news starts the hype train

AC was by far my top game of 2011. From when i banged it in the slot i stayed faithful to the very end, no other title got a look in.

Interesting that they didn't say off the bat that that it would be made by Rocksteady....... weren't they rumoured to be working on a Silver Age batman game for next-gen already? In which case this would be another WB team given the keys to the Arkham sandbox - probably to round off current gen, or possibly bridge both (as Arkham City has with Wii U).

Nothing wrong with that of course!

That's good thinking. The next triple-A will be out by then. So, it should be cheaper.
