Rocksteady has revealed Batman: Arkham Knight, the next game in the Batman: Arkham series heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year.

The game was revealed in a listing on GAME's website and is expected to be formally announced in today's issue of Game Informer.

According to GAME's listing, Arkham Knight is the "explosive finale" to the Arkham series, and sees return to face "the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever."

The game will also introduce "Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City."

A pre-order bonus will also let players play as Harley Quinn across four exclusive Challenge Maps, gaining access to her unique weapons and abilities.

Expect more on Arkham Knight later today.

Nice current gen support only! It's too bad I never liked the series that much.

Don't have a next gen machine yet, but keep on announcing things like this and you will have me very tempted! I don't really mind it being next-gen if it is able to make the most of next gen consoles. I do see where you are coming from though Clockpunk.

A strange statement to make indeed. Surely it would be better for us gamers if developers start harnessing the power of next gen machines instead of being held back by the previous gen. I think its really great that Rocksteady are brave enough to do this, they are obviously going for quality instead of concentrating on the install base for maximum sales.
The shift has to happen at some point and sooner or later gamers will have to make a choice to dig into their pockets and climb aboard the next gen train or they will be missing out, at least until price cuts arrive and they are comfortable to pay the given price which is also inevitable, eventually every gamer worth his salt will have a PS4/XBone.
I would have been pi**ed if this was announced as cross gen. The Arkaham series deserves a true next gen title. I'm am really looking forward to this now.

This seems like a strange opinion. Considering this wasn't announced by Warner or Rocksteady I suspect this might not be out for a while. And the fact that's it's "next gen" only (current gen now) suggests it's a game that would be compromised if it was being developed for the previous gen.

It could be the game that makes me want to get a PS4.

Well this would explain a lot, I thought they were planning a sequel with Scarecrow as the lead villain after that little easter egg in Arkham City http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TiqrurnNEE and so I was always disappointed that they got another developer to make a prequel. And the speculation of the Silver age Batman didn't really interest me either.

Emphasizing the horror elements with Scarecrow could be a really good move, although I'm not sure how well that would work with driving sections.

A shame the 'explosive finale' to a loong-running series won't be playable to those console gamers who haven't paid the exorbitant next-gen tax yet.

That's a shocking bad decision, right there.
