Believes there's plenty of room for 'awesome' games.

Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto, has told VideoGamer.com that there's no longer room in the video game industry for average or bad games.

Asked if he felt Ubisoft's upcoming sequel, Assassin's Creed 2, could compete at retail with the might of Activision's Modern Warfare 2, perhaps even surpass it, Mallat said:

"It would certainly be too pretentious of me to try to predict the future. But I can certainly say there is no room any more for average or bad games, but there is still a lot of room for awesome games, and that's what Assassin's Creed is."

But just how big can the Assassin's Creed franchise become? The biggest name in gaming?

"It is possible, absolutely," said Mallat. "Assassin's Creed is already the fastest selling new IP, two years ago, and that's good."

He added: "Is Assassin's Creed going to be the biggest brand or name in the video game industry? I certainly hope so, and I would say we're doing everything we can so that it happens."

Assassin's Creed 2 is scheduled for release on November 20 for Xbox 360 and PS3. The PC version will release in 2010.

Find out what else Mallat had to say by heading over to the interview in full.

Exactly i bought because of the trailer and the immense hype build up. You couldn't even use the bloody crossbow that was in the trailer.

Of all the people who bought AC...what percentage bought it just because they saw that awesome trailer! I would imagine alot did. I dont know how good AC2 will be but im sure our tvs will be bombarded with stunning looking trailors of the game

Ok so the story was crap, gameplay was crap, the only good thing was climbing and graphics. That's it. Starting to think this forum is filling up with retards.

Show Spoiler I foresee a retard thumbing me down for expressing an opinion

The first Assasins creed was such an average game. It had the potential to be great but it was made too repetitive. Also Ubisoft really need to stop making games like this so easy. For example, Prince of persia and Assasins creed share the same climbing techniques which are far too easy. No real challenge. Same for combat....limited moves. No real character and its hard for the gamer to express him/her self...sorry if that sounds a bit queer

I had it on PS3 Karlius.

But you are right about the frame rate, it wasn't good and it was mainly with populated crowds the frame rate.
It's not as bad as the Orange Box though. I sold it on PS3 and got it on the 360 instead (thats how bad it was on the PS3)

Back to AC
There was a patch to stop the game from crashing lol not for the frame rate etc (and it did crash b4 anyone asks becuase it crashed a couple of times b4 the update for the PS3 and I had the game from the start)
I think there was a patch mind for the 360 as well mind to be fair, but I never played the 360 version of AC so I couldn't comment on the 360.

I read it the same as Altaranga that it was that there is no room in Ubi's future for bad games.

I though AC was a good game for a couple of hours - it looked nice, it handled well - the climbing mechanic was fantastic but I must admit that I got bored of it quite quickly unfortunatley. However I'm hoping that Ubi have come up with a great game for the sequel as the original was a game that I really wanted to like!

It's better if you leave spelling and grammar out of it completely, as it causes distraction and gives your target a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card. Keep to the subject, and do not allow yourself to be side tracked.

And back on topic again, I really do feel this thread has been alot of hot air over nothing. I don't think Yannis was referring to the original AC in his statement, and so whether or not AC was good or bad is a moot point here. He was talking about AC2, which none of us (bar a precious few at VG) have been able to play yet.

LOL....what point have you proven? All you've said is "Assassin's Creed is rubbish." without even bothering to tell us why that is so................point well made, genius!

It's best if you can point out the flaws in their argument, then pick on their spelling and grammar to make them look stupid so people will not put much value in their points.

Back on topic, AC was sh*t no matter what console it was on. People got caught up in the hype and wanted it to be good so much that they thought it was good. Clearly a lot of people agreed with me, it came out in Oct/Nov time, I went in to a store during the January sales and there was a whole stand of pre-owned copies for £29.99 which was really daft as the store was selling it new for £29.99 in the sales.

People who can not prove a point tend to try and insult another by illuminating grammar imperfections.

Dude, if you are going to pick people up on spelling and grammar it is a good idea to make sure yours is perfect. Otherwise your own words will come back to bite you...

We usually tend to let these things slip on this forum. Ok?

Back on subject, I think the point that Yannis Mallat was trying to make was about the future of gaming, not about the past.

Excerpt from James' story:
Asked if he felt Ubisoft's upcoming sequel, Assassin's Creed 2, could compete at retail with the might of Activision's Modern Warfare 2, perhaps even surpass it, Mallat said:
"It would certainly be too pretentious of me to try to predict the future. But I can certainly say there is no room any more for average or bad games, but there is still a lot of room for awesome games, and that's what Assassin's Creed is."

The question, and therefore by inference the answer, was relating to Assassin's Creed 2 (even though I admit he neglected to specify the 2 part). So enough with the "AC was sh!t/awesome" comments already. Let us judge Yannis on his word when AC2 comes out. ;)

I actually think if you didn't play the 360 version for a direct comparison you wouldn't know how broke the PS3 version truly was. While most areas ran fine highly populated area''s were terrible. I believe they did update with a patch that fixed many issues so depending on when you got the game the patch may have fixed most of the problems. There were only a few early cross platform games that were truly bad on PS3. Fight Night Round 3 off the top of my head was another.

The mate who had assassins creed on PS3 loved the game. Bevan what platform did you buy it on?
