While chatting with Giant Bomb, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has revealed that Ubisoft's now confirmed Assassin's Creed sequel is to be set "several hundred years" forward from the first game's 1191 setting.

Pachter later revealed that the title would be set "sometime in the 1700s" and suggested it will take place during the French Revolution.

Sorry guys, Gameinformer confirmed that it will be set in 15th century Renaissance Italy, in the year 1476. Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence as well as a descendant of Altair, will be the main protagonist. In the new game, it appears that a lot has changed since Altair took a blade to Al Mualim 285 years ago, because Ezio has made a lot of changes. He has lost the large blades that Altair carried around on his back and side at all times, basically an obvious sign that says "I'M AN ASSASSSIN," in favor to always carrying around only his hidden blade and throwing knives at all times. Here's the cool part: he has two blades, one for each hand (which have gone under some design changes since Ezio still has all his fingers). Fret not though, your needs for big weapons can be satisfied by killing a guard that has the weapon you want to bash, slice, or shiv your enemies with. Also, Altair's ancestor took the time to take swimming lessons and can now swim freely in the canals of Venice. This may hold interesting opportunities to use some cool water-based stealth assassinations. Check out the rest in May's GameInformer.

Bertie: The Knights Templar was dissolved in the 14th century, but still continues to operate even today in one form or another. French Revolution leads me to think it will have something to do with the Freemasons who pull their heritage from the Templars.

If it was to be set in this time, the historical accuracy and storyline would be completely thrown out of the window
1) Altiar would be DEAD
2)Abstergo would have to need to put him in the Animus
3) The guild was destroyed in the 14th century

Because of this i think it will be set in either the present day as you playing as Desmond or as a new character, subject 18's ancestor or sumthing
