Speaking during Activision Blizzard's earning call earlier today, a financial analyst asked CEO Bobby Kotick why so many of Vivendi's video game titles were dropped when the companies merged to form Activision Blizzard.

Although not directly addressing specific titles - Ghostbusters, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, Riddick - MTV Multiplayer reports that Kotick did offer some thoughts on Activision Blizzard's publishing policy.

The titles didn't "have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million dollar franchises," said Kotick.

He continued: "I think, generally, our strategy has been to focus... on the products that have those attributes and characteristics, the products that we know [that] if we release them today, we'll be working on them 10 years from now."

That's not to say Activision Blizzard won't be looking at creating new IP, as Kotick explained: "You still need to have production of new original property but you have to do it very selectively... the focus at retail and for the consumer is to continue to be on the big narrow and deep high profile release strategy... We've had enough experience that I think the strategy we employ is the most successful."

Kotick noted that of the publisher's 15 properties to be released next year, three or four will be "exciting new intellectual properties".
