GfK ChartTrack reports that EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup has held on at the top of the All Formats All Prices UK video game chart for another week, denying Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake and Capcom's multi-platform sequel Lost Planet 2.

With the 2010 World Cup still the best part of four weeks away, EA's officially licensed game is likely to have long legs - the excitement around the tournament ensuring sales continue to be strong well into the summer.

Microsoft and Remedy's Alan Wake is off to a solid, if a little disappointing start at No.2, coming around 1,000 units shy of the top spot. It did, however, manage to better Capcom's Lost Planet 2. The action sequel had to settle for third place - 12,000 units back on Alan Wake - despite a Tuesday launch and some very aggressive pricing.

The new releases forced Ubisoft's Just Dance down to No.4, but the Wii phenomenon still had enough in the tank to fend off EA's Skate 3 at No.5.

Interestingly, both Lost Planet 2 and Skate 3 faired much better on Xbox 360, despite the competition from Alan Wake. LP2 sold 66 per cent of its total on Xbox, while Skate 3 took an even larger 68 per cent on Microsoft's platform.

Elsewhere retailer promotions have seen a number of titles make big movements. Activision's Call of Duty: World at War jumps back into the Top 20 at No.15 and Square Enix's NIER makes it's first Top 40 appearance at No.23.

Expect more change in the Top 10 next week with the likes of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Split/Second, ModNation Racers and Red Dead Redemption battling for your money.

What I would like to know is how many units has wake shifted we know it's a 1000 less than FIFA and 12,000 more than LP2. LP2 could have sold 2000 units, wake 14,000 and FIFA 15,000 everyone doing pants or LP2 could of sold 1.2 mil in a week and everyone have done awesome. Without a total figure the sales positions mean nothing.

Hats off to EA...just goes to show you don't need to spend years making a game for it to do well...

When I worked at Gamestation, the manager (in all seriousness) always talked about Fifa and the Need For Speed series as having (and I hate to use this term) 'the chav advantage' and would always outsell more thoughtful or indepth titlestitles... And what with this whole world cup nonsense starting up (I can't stand football - but I realise I'm in the minority there) the numbers do make sense.

Was just about to say the same Chris. TU

@James just look to your left LP2 is right there.

Remedy are not in charge of advertisement and they had no part of the distribution of the Bright Falls prequel. I think the game being brought forward a week was the key to lack of advertisement here. Apparently in US there is a big advertisement campaign that is running.

Don't even start on Just Dance...
It actually pisses me off that so little effort goes into a game that so many people buy. I doubt they properly enjoy it either.

I think Alan Wake's performance is pretty superb considering it is constrained by a single platform's install base. Lost Planet 2 on the other hand must have really dissapointed Capcom considering that a) it's a sequel, b) had strong marketing and c) had multiple platforms to sell across.

Skate 3's sales seem a bit low but skating certainly isn't for everyone. Also, who the hell is still buying Just Dance?!

Yeah, if you have the ability to save millions of pounds on advertising, you'd take it lol

I just get a hunch feeling that Remedy, thought that people would pick up the game seeing how long the game has been in development. Hence the reason of no advertisement as I think everybody has heard of Alan Wake because of how long it took.

Thats my opinion anyway lol.

Yeah, but for people who keep up with videogames, Lost Planet 2 has been ripped apart by the majority of those who've played it.

I'm surprised it's done that well considering there has been no advertisement.

"solid, if a little disappointing"

Exactly how I would describe Alan Wake.
