Microsoft has announced that the interactive game show, 1 vs 100, will not be returning for a third season on Xbox LIVE.

During the Beta season, more than 114,000 people played 1 vs 100 on Xbox LIVE simultaneously, setting an official Guinness world record for the most contestants in a game show.

"When we started on this journey, we knew we were creating an entirely new genre of entertainment that would be a continually evolving concept," said Dave McCarthy, General Manager, Microsoft Game Studios. "We're very proud of the 1 vs 100 team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we’ve learned to future programming."

Microsoft says that the 1 vs 100 team is now focusing their skills and applying the technology used to develop 1 vs 100 to new projects that will be unveiled in the future.

I hope Microsoft do a similar kind of trivia game with prizes, because I was very good at trivia and actually won something on the game. :(

I guess the reason could also be to do with the 1 vs 100 brand; it might cost money to have the name, so Microsoft could make a new game without having to shell out money or be locked into a contract or something.

The prizes were negligible and to even contemplate that the reason for cancelling the program was due to the minute cost of prizes is ridiculous. The second seasons attach figures dropped off so obviously not enough of an audience. Also there is a means of creating the series if the series wasn't covering the cost of creation I.E. staff development time via advertisements etc then the project would be deemed a failure.

Its more likely that it was running/development costs that got the project the can rather than the prizes.

Dont think so because people used to earn thousands of ms points and then buy stuff which meant ms didn't make as much as they wanted

Yeah but you have to be a gold member to play 1 vs 100 so they still ahve a huge profit margin per player.

Probably why they're getting rid of it. Those prizes mean money and MS dont want to give them away no more.

I'll kinda miss it, I remember I won 260 MS points and Age of Booty, surprised it didn't get more traffic, I mean you can win prizes!

I'll miss it. I got to be The One one night! Messed up on a literature question, something to do with T S Eliot. Later that night, 50+ people didn't know that Hayao Miyazaki directed Spirited Away. WHY THE HELL did I not get that question?

Yep, it could be very slow as well. It's a shame that it's gone as I always enjoyed playing it but often forgot to.

Yeah, it was quite fun, only managed to get a game organised a few times though, I think the timing part is the thing that let it down the most, having to be there at a certain time.
