After being dropped for release outside of Japan by Microsoft Game Studios, publisher Majesco has picked up Phantom Dust for a release in North America, expected to be early 2005. The game has been available in Japan for some time, faring well critically; however a release of the game in the west has since not been fourthcoming.
Speaking on the release, Ken Gold, Majesco's VP of Marketing stated, "Phantom Dust is one of the great new titles we have scheduled to kick-off our 2005 product lineup. Developed by Microsoft Games Studios Japan, Phantom Dust will take full advantage of Xbox LiveTM by allowing players to obtain and trade more than 300 of the game's "skills" online, while giving them a deep and involved single-player game experience at the same time."
In the game, players take on the role of a survivor in a post-apocalytic world, forced underground by an unknown cataclysm. The surface world is dangerous, however it is now home to particles known as Phantom Dust, which have the ability to imbue humans with special abilities and powers. It is created by Yukio Futatsugi, formerly of Panzer Dragoon creators Team Andromeda, who also worked on the visually stunning Panzer Dragoon Orta.
A release in Europe has not yet been confirmed and is likely to hinge on the success of the game in North America.
