Update: The Splatoon Global Testfire is back for an encore on Saturday May 24 at 11pm BST, Nintendo has announced.

The demo will be live for one hour allowing you to enjoy 4-on-4 online Turf War battles using the same weapons as the previous Global Testfire event.

Original Report: Nintendo has announced plans to host an open beta for Wii U shooter Splatoon this weekend.

Taking place this Saturday, May 9, players will get to test up to 3 hours of 4 vs. 4 online multiplayer, with servers going live for 1-hour periods at 4am, 12pm and 4pm BST.

The beta – which Nintendo is calling a ‘Global Testfire Demo’ – will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop later this afternoon, but won’t be playable until the test slots go live on Saturday.

Anybody who downloads the demo will also get 10 percent off a digital copy of Splatoon when it launches on May 29, bringing the price down from £34.99 to £31.49. The promotion is only available for the first week of launch, however, expiring on Thursday, June 4.

A range of free DLC will be available following the game’s launch, too, including new weapons, a new Tower Control ranked battle mode, and an update that introduces further matchmaking functionality, allowing 4 players to form a team and square off against another team.

A third ranked battle mode and additional cosmetic items will be introduced to the game in August as well.

Splatoon launches exclusively on Wii U on May 29.
