Missed this afternoon's Nintendo Direct? Well, you didn't miss much... But nevertheless, Nintendo did choose to lift the lid on a handful of new Sonic titles heading to Wii U later in the year, as well as reveal new information on Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and New Super Luigi U.

Want to know more? Here's a summary of today's Nintendo Direct news:

  • Nintendo announces that it has entered into a worldwide partnership with SEGA on the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise. The partnership offers Nintendo the exclusive rights to publish or distribute the next three Sonic titles.

  • Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the latest title in the Mario & Sonic: Olympic Games series, will launch on Wii U later this year. The game includes classic events such as curling, skiing and snowboarding, as well as new events including figure skating. More details are to be announced soon.
  • New Super Luigi U, the upcoming DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U, will release on Wii U eShop on June 20. Alternatively, a standalone disc release will be available for a limited time from July 26.
  • Platinum Games' mass-hero action game The Wonderful 101 releases in Europe on August 23.
  • Pikmin 3 will land in Europe on July 26, complete with off-screen play.

I don't hate them per say, I own (well technically my sister owns) the original and I enjoy playing it. It's just that I'm not so sure that lightning will strike twice, and I think the magic has worn of a little now that there is 3 instalments in this franchise on the Wii.

Olympic game that not many care about
You mean, other than the >10 million who bought the two on the Wii? You may have hated them, but those games were system sellers. Can lightning strike twice? Who knows, but the existence of that game may well do a lot to make a whole subsection of Wii owners look at upgrading.

Just got back from college and watch it. Not that good this time. They even said in the video itself that they've got another one of these scheduled for within a months time for E3 period, so they're holding news on the Q4 release back. Doesn't change that not much happened this time. At least we got release dates, but the only thing I'm interested in coming soon is New Super Luigi.

The whole sonic exclusivity deal was the major surprise of this one, but in the end all we saw was a concept image of the interesting new game, and Olympic game that not many care about.
