Princess Peach is too unique to appear in New Super Mario Bros. U
All players had to have the same moves as Mario, says the game director.
Princess Peach is not a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. U because she is too unique to be kitted out with a generic move set, game director Masataka Takemoto has told gamesTM.
The Wii U launch game features Mario, Luigi and Toad, but Princess Peach is nowhere to be seen.
"In Super Mario Bros 2, Princess Peach had her own unique moves and animation," Takemoto explained. "In this series, we want all the players to have the same moves and animations as Mario, and Princess Peach isn't suited for that."
New Super Mario Bros. U will be released on Friday, November 30 alongside the Wii U.

Peach fans would likely have settled for her inclusion with generic moves, but it seems Takemoto would not have been happy for this to happen.

All they really needed to do is create items that give each characters the unique powers of others. For example Mario and Luigi only need a feather to mimc Peach, but peach gets the ability for free. ya know..a bit of diversity add a touch of meaning to your choice :)

I think they could of weaved her in as a new game plus character (kind of like Luigi from Mario galaxy), but in that form her move set (floating with the parasol, and ducking to become invincible, slower running speed etc...), would be most appreciated in a new 3D game as opposed to the NSMB franchise.
