Did everyone see that Wii U advert during X Factor as we were told would happen? No, neither did I, but did manage to watch the cringey Adam Buxton-narrated infomercial which premiered during a rather good episode of US drama Homeland (seriously, where's this show going to go from here?).

Once Brad Pitt got off the screen, Buxton's piss-take of a commercial featured the now legendary "shpin shpin shpin shpin" which as we all know is exactly what was needed to sell the Wii U to the twenty-somethings watching the TV at the time.

Dave wrote down his thoughts on why the ad was basically a big pile of bobbins.

Nintendo will sell the system at a loss, something it was forced to do with the 3DS after it flat-lined out of the blocks. However, where this leaves the new console should its relatively high asking price leave consumers looking elsewhere, remains to be seen. At least Nintendo has said there will be regular stock replenishment for the Wii U over its launch period, even if some are suggesting stock will be extremely limited.

FIFA 13 continues to ride higher than the rest in the UK video games chart, but Minecraft managed something no other XBLA game could and topped the LIVE Activity chart ahead of FIFA and Modern Warfare 3. Medal of Honor: Warfighter is now in stores, but analysts are concerned it won't meet EA's targets, especially if poor review scores are any indication of sales. We still predict a strong chart entry, but sales are likely to bomb in the second week, especially with Assassin's Creed 3 in stores on Wednesday – Ubisoft's most pre-ordered game ever. And after that it's only a week until Halo 4 – Microsoft's most expensive game ever – hits stores on November 6.

League of Legends continues to prove it's insanely popular, with more than eight million people having tuned in to watch the Season 2 Finals earlier this month. It's a staggering following for a game which for a long time existed under the radar. Now updates to maps and a new spider-based champion are headline news.

Apple did something unusual and live-streamed its new product announcement, only it forgot to think about the hundreds of thousands of viewers on a pretty new iPad when it unveiled its fourth generation tablet, thus infuriating those who'd spent £400 or more only a few months ago. The iPad mini was also rather underwhelming, with its almost 8-inch shell housing the same internals as the somewhat outdated iPad 2, yet asking around £100 more when compared to the Nexus 7.

Reviews this week included Borderlands 2 DLC, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty, Skylanders Giants, Hotline Miami, Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.
