Fans asked when they want the next Mass Effect to be set
Are you more interested in a game which takes place before or after the existing trilogy, asks Hudson.
The next instalment in the Mass Effect franchise is currently in production at BioWare Montreal, but it appears the team is still considering which direction to take the game.
Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson Tweeted: "Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?"
Both options pose challenges for the development team. Set the title before the trilogy and whatever takes place must eventually tie in to events in the trilogy, but choose to set the game after the trilogy and the branching storyline of the trilogy must be picked up by the new game.
BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy blogged about the new game earlier this month, revealing the team will use Frostbite, utilising some of the systems created for Dragon Age 3.
"With the original trilogy now concluded and the switch over to a new engine, we are exploring new directions, both on the gameplay and story fronts," said Roy.
"You can still expect the pillars the franchise is known for to be fully intact though, including diverse alien races, a huge galaxy to explore, and of course rich, cinematic storytelling."

Talk about creatively bankrupt.

The Mass Effect universe is vast and incredibly well crafted so I think they could launch a new story with new characters. I also think they could make the setting before the events of the ME series to help flesh out the details regarding the Krogan Rebellions, the Earth-Turian war, the Quarian-Geth conflict, etc. I'd really like to see the main character actually be one of the alien races, with a human side character to help bring familiarity with Earth cultures while playing as a character that has it's own cultural aspects and play styles.
Also, I WANT LOOT! All those lockers, crates, bad guys with big 'shooty-guns' and there was nothing in the way of proper loot in the original series. Except ME1, which, when I replayed it a year back, almost had a unintentional loot system (at least it felt unintentional).
What I don't want to see is the Mass Effect series being turned into a bloomin' MMORPG!

Have they never seen most of the terrible fan stories/ideas of anything on the net!

Personally I'd rather see a new IP from the same team rather than Mass Effect 4, 5, 6 and inevitable spinoffs (Mako Racing, Reaper vs Alliance RTS, Krogan x WWE and so on). All the innovations - conversation wheels, Paragon/Renegade systems, genuinely good space-opera RPG, fantastically unique environments - have lost their sheen and are now getting rather too familiar.
There's still tonnes of epic lore to be squeezed from the universe they've created, I just don't want to suffer through more 'get behind cover move your party members select a skill use it shoot at heads move to next area have a conversation rinse and repeat' gameplay to discover it.
