Nintendo is ramping up its marketing efforts for the Wii U and 3DS by taking the consoles on tour at some of the summer's biggest family events.

The Wii U Den Tour will offer consumers the chance to try out the struggling console, with New Super Mario Bros. U, Lego City Undercover, Nintendo Land and the Miiverse all on show.

The Wii U Den Tour will be visiting the following locations this summer:

  • Sunderland Air Show, Seaburn Park, Sunderland (27-28 July)
  • Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Ashton Court Estate, Bristol (8-11 August)
  • Eastbourne Airborne, King Edwards Parade, Eastbourne (15-18 August)
  • Clacton Air Show, Marine Parade West, Clacton-on-Sea (22–23 August)

Running in parallel to the Wii U Den Tour is the 3DS Festival of Fun, which promises the chance to sample a host of the system's best games.

On offer will be Mario Kart 7, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros., Luigi's Mansion 2, LEGO CITY Undercover: The Chase Begins and LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey.

Look out for multiplayer Mario Kart 7 races, ghost hunting in Luigi's Mansion 2 and daily Animal Crossing: New Leaf tips and tricks to running a successful town.

Those who already have a 3DS are encouraged to bring the handheld along to meet other Nintendo fans via StreetPass.

The Nintendo 3DS Festival of Fun will be coming to the following locations this summer:

  • Sunderland Air Show, Seaburn Park, Sunderland (27-28 July)
  • Nottingham Riverside Festival, Victoria Embankment, Nottingham (2-4 August)
  • Eastbourne Airborne, King Edwards Parade, Eastbourne (15-18 August)
  • Williamson Square (City Centre), William Square, Liverpool (22-25 August)
  • Bournemouth Air Festival, Bournemouth Sea Front, Bournemouth (29 August – 1 September)

VideoGamer.com Analysis

I find Nintendo's choice of tour names to be somewhat baffling. Whereas the 3DS gets the pretty cool sounding Festival of Fun, the Wii U is left with the Den Tour – which would you rather attend?

Then there's the question of why Nintendo is leaving its most exciting upcoming titles at home. There's no sign of Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Wonderful 101 or next year's Mario Kart 8.
