Tomonobu Itagaki has high hopes for his over-the-top shooter Devil’s Third, claiming that the upcoming Wii U exclusive will ‘demolish the standard’ of online multiplayer set by existing console games.

Taking to his Facebook page, Itagaki claimed that he had looked at online shooters Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War and Halo while designing the action shooter and “added totally brand new playabilities that only we can create”.

“[Devil’s Third] demolishes the standard of past console games in on-line multi-play,” he said, later adding: “Anyone can enjoy this game; from casual gamers to hard-core gamers. Let me put it this way. You guys can throw a fun party, or can kill each other in realistic war. You can play your heart out.”

Devil’s Third was rescued by Nintendo following THQ’s collapse with the game now set to release in 2015.

“Development is going smoothly,” Itagaki added. “In [other] words we [finished] editing ending movie the other day.”

A first look at the game’s online multiplayer was revealed during this year’s E3 with the mode said to blend “clan-based action, resource management and strategy”. Curious to see what it looks like? Take a look below.
