Activision is set to introduce microtransactions to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

According to the publisher's blogger Dan Amrich, an update releasing for the Xbox 360 version tomorrow will introduce "new, optional in-game purchases called Micro Items", allowing players to purchase additional customisation items and enhance their media storage.

"This content contains either personal customizations or nice little luxuries that I've seen players request," Amrich states on his blog, "none of them affect gameplay, but they are small, specific ways to enhance your online experience."

Multiple types of packs are set to be introduced, including 'Personalisation Packs', themed packs containing a unique weapon camo, three targeting reticles, and a custom player Calling Card, and 'Flags of the World Calling Cards Packs', which include "national flag-themed Calling Cards from countries around the world".

Personalisation Packs will cost 160 Microsoft Points (£1.37) each, with Flags of the World Calling Cards Packs set to cost 80 MSP (69p) each.

A single-purchase 'Extra Slots Pack' will also be available for 160 MSP (£1.37), offering players 10 additional Create-A-Class slots and extra space for media storage, letting Theater Mode users archive 20 more emblems, 32 more films and 40 more screenshots.

The Nuketown Zombies map, previously only available with the Black Ops 2 Season Pass or with the Hardened and Care Package editions of the game, will also be released for 400 MSP (£3.43), while the Nuketown 2025 multiplayer map, previously a pre-order exclusive, will be released to all for free.

"At the end of the day, all of these items are completely optional, and were created for players who've asked for more customization options," says Amrich.

"If that's not you, that's fine; everybody gets Nuketown 2025 for free, so definitely take advantage of that."

The content will be released on "other platforms" at a later date.

Unless people smarten up and realize they are wasting money on utterly useless garbage, and to stop buying this crap, the game companies will push further and further into making you pay extra for even basic functions of games.

STOP supporting this BS. Boycott paying for useless content.

Skins and other items that don't affect gameplay are jus about acceptable. Saying that, however, daft things like the bacon mod should be the sort of thing hidden in the main game and unlockable by dint of effort...
