Upcoming single-player story DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins has been cancelled on Wii U, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has confirmed.

Warner explained the decision to VG247.

"Based on demand for DLC content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming all-new story campaign for Wii U," reads a statement from a PR rep.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Being shafted on DLC isn't unusual for Wii U; Ubisoft hasn't offered any DLC for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 missed out on additional map packs. Unless Wii U sales begin to pick up, it's a situation unlikely to change.

I think Nintendo have concentrated far too much on the 3DS and are paying for it. I can't remember seeing much adverts for the Wii U and the name simply confuses the average consumer who don't realise it's a different system to the Wii.

Exactly. If they don't believe they'll get the money back, and let's be honest, making games is still a very expensive business, they're not going to do it. Warner ain't the first, and sure as hell won't be the last.

Certainly drives that 3rd party nail in a bit deeper, though.

You could easily argue that it IS Nintendo's fault. Warner are a company, they need to make a profit. If creating a big piece of DLC won't see any money coming back because the userbase is low or Wii U owners just haven't bought enough DLC in the past (while other consoles and PC owners have done) it wouldn't make sense financially.

So it's the Wii U's fault that the DLC isn't coming out? Not Warner's? Ok, good to know.

If they created enough must-have games they could afford to almost give away the console to grow its userbase. Not that this will ever happen in the real world, but a lot of profit is made from first party software sales and licensing, so finding some way of pushing the Wii U back out there is a must.

I think this will be the last year that 3rd party games will come out on Wii-U. The user base is too small and Nintendo need to sort out better comms with 3rd party companies and build a decent network.
