Nintendo has announced that the Wii MotionPlus accessory will hit European retailers on June 12, offering Wii gamers new levels of precision and performance. This will be followed six weeks later on July 24 with the release of Wii Sports Resort, the follow-up to the hugely popular Wii console pack-in, Wii Sports.

When used with specially designed games (Nintendo has confirmed Virtua Tennis 2009, Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10), Wii MotionPlus tracks players' movements in finer detail, with greater accuracy than offered by the Wii Remote. Once the accessory is attached a Wii Remote even the slightest movements will be possible to replicated exactly in a compatible game.

Wii Sports Resort (each game comes packed with the single Wii MotionPlus accessory) promises to take the fun of the original game to the next level, introducing a new set of entertaining and immersive activities. New beach-themed games will see players cruising on a water scooter, duelling with swords, tossing a frisbee and much more.

"Everyone who has played the Wii can remember the moment they first discovered its intuitive controls and realised that this was an incredible new way of experiencing video games," said Laurent Fischer, Managing Director, Marketing & PR, Nintendo of Europe. "Wii MotionPlus will create that feeling again, taking gameplay to a new level of realism. And with Wii Sports Resort, people will get the chance to immerse themselves in a hugely fun set of games that are designed to make the very best of this exciting new technology."

EA's Grand Slam Tennis will launch on June 12 to coincide with the release of Wii MotionPlus. No pricing information on Wii MotionPlus or the Wii Sports Resort bundle has been announced.
