It appears rumours that Neversoft had been replaced as the developer of the Tony Hawk series were true, with Neversoft founder Joel Jewett confirming to the Great Falls Tribune that a new developer will be at the helm of the next title.

"It's probably best for the franchise ... it's time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it," said Jewett.

There's been no official announcement from Activision regarding the identity of the new Tony Hawk developer, although it's believed that Chicago startup Robomodo has been given the gig.

The studio's official website states: "We are currently working on a high-profile extreme sports title for Activision Blizzard."

Extreme sports titles don't come much more high profile than an entry in the Tony Hawk series.

It's probably for the best. Neversoft hit their peak with the series about six years ago, and each subsequent game has been feeling more and more tired. Still - it's the price you pay with annual updates; hopefully ActiBlizz will understand this. The same thing has happened to EA with Need for Speed, and the rumours of a different developer (or possible cancellation).
