Despite early reports that Nintendo had under shipped Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii - estimated at only 600,000 units - the game has amassed first week sales of a very impressive 820,000 units.

The figures provided by Media Create put the multiplayer focused Wii title over 600,000 units clear of Devil May Cry 4, the No.2 game for the week ending February 3. Capcom's next-gen sequel sold 205,000 units on PlayStation 3, over five times that of the 40,000 selling Xbox 360 version.

All the new entries saw Wii Fit fall to No.5, although a further 73,000 units sold moved lifetime sales to 1,356,000 units. The PlayStation 3 could celebrate a further two titles in the Top 10 with Disgaea 3 at No.6 and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed new at No.9.

Hardware figures haven't been released just yet, but it will be interesting to see if the huge demand for SSBB has resulted in surge in sales of Wii hardware - likewise the Devil May Cry 4 effect on the PS3.
