It's official. Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii will feature online battles with players able to challenge other players from around the globe via the free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.

When playing against friends players will have the ability to shout pre-set taunts using the four directions on the d-pad. However, taunting won't be possible when battling against a random player who isn't on your friends list. There will also be no record of each player's wins and losses when playing a non-friend.

Further online functionality is promised, with details to come at a later date.
