The Academy has announced the nominations for the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards, with 44 different games having been recognised.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is up for seven BAFTAs, including Action, Artistic Achievement, Multiplayer, Technical Innovation, Use of Audio, Best Game and Gameplay.

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Heavy Rain each have six nominations, Mass Effect 2 follows with five and LIMBO and Super Mario Galaxy 2 each have four.

This year's new Social Network Game category saw nominations go to Bejeweled Blitz, Farmerama, FIFA Superstars, My Empire, Zoo Mumba, and Zuma Blitz.

The Academy also nurtures the developers of tomorrow by recognising up-and-coming talent. This year's nominations for the BAFTA Ones To Watch Award in association with Dare to be Digital are Mush, Sculpty and Twang.

Well last time out MW2 didn't, Although I disagree with the nominations last time round Batman won game of the year so they clearly do pay attention to games

Im shocked Starcraft did not get nominated for best game, now im going to go play it and try and understand why.

I get the feeling its because its a PC game

Slightly stunned that Red Dead Redemption didn't get any nominations at all except for the GAME Award, which is the only one voted for by the public.
