EA's FIFA franchise has become the first game brand to make over £1 billion at UK retail, GFK Chart-Track has revealed to CVG.
40 FIFA games have helped the hit franchise reach the £1 billion milestone, with FIFA 13 and FIFA 12 accounting for a huge £200 million of this total.
Call of Duty has racked up over £800 million in the UK, but has done so with only 19 games. Nintendo's Mario is the third highest-grossing game brand in the UK, but the plumber has appeared in 60 games – including spin-offs such as Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
GfK's data tracking only began in 1996, meaning any FIFA or Mario game sales prior to this date haven't been included in the statistics.
Remember that both FIFA and Call of Duty have considerable digital sales for the likes of Ultimate Team and Map Packs, meaning both franchises are likely to have made substantially more money for their respective publishers.
