Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has bullishly claimed upcoming Wii exclusive platformer New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Activision's imminent powerhouse Modern Warfare 2.

There is one significant stipulation in his claim: NSMB Wii will outsell single format MW2.

"Absolutely. I say that unequivocally. On one particular platform, I do believe so," Fils-Aime told GTTV. "Now, you've got to give me the entire holiday selling season. Right? So let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. Yes. I'll put that stake in the ground."

He has a point, though. 20 million copies of New Super Mario Bros. for DS, which comfortably beats the 14 million Modern Warfare sales over all platforms. I just think that his time frame may not be the best, as Wii games are generally not as reliant on the launch month as PS3 and 360 titles.

Because you can put sales on a chart and compare them directly. That's Reggie's business: numbers on charts. Whether they're qualitatively comparable as games to play or not is irrelevant, they're being compared in terms of significance to the industry. I guess Nintendo is trying to say that Mario is still pretty big :D

If there's no point in comparing the quality the why is Reggie comparing the sales?

Nintendo aren't confused, consumers look at adverts and marketing over sales and even quality. And there's absolutely NO point in comparing the quality of these two games; they'll both be the best in their league, or near enough.

Also, sales do benefit the consumer. More sales of MW2, more people to throw grenades at online :D

I really wouldn't want to make such a bold statement as this. I'm sure the sales will all be colossally high, but the Wii has been in decline all year, will this affect Christmas sales? Who knows :s

even if nintendo sells 45432663434634 times more copies then MW2 it will never be 1% as good as MW2.

nintendo seem confused........consumers look at quality over sales.

sales have no benefits to the consumer what so ever.
