Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the next-gen platforms is shaping up to be something very special, but even with talk of exciting new technology only possible on powerful platforms such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 the lack of a Wii announcement didn't go unnoticed.

Wii and Star Wars fans can now rejoice with confirmation coming from LucasArts that The Force Unleashed is in development for Wii, motion-controlled lightsabers included.

The Wii version, in development at Krome (also handling the PS2 and PSP versions), promises to offer a unique experience thanks to an exclusive duel mode. Here players will be allowed to use the Wii Remote to control their lightsaber in battles against friends, with the Nunchuck used to control Force powers.

"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said LucasArts president Jim Ward. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."

As with other versions of the game, players will take on the role of Darth Vader's secret apprentice in a story set between events of Episode III and Episode IV.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is also in development for Xbox 360 and PS3 (internally at LucasArts) and Nintendo DS by n-Space. A 2008 release is targeted.
