Silent Hill: Shattered Memories News for Wii

Nintendo Power magazine has revealed that Konami is working on a new Silent Hill game for Wii, and it's not a port.

“This is a re-imagining of the first Silent Hill,” explained producer Tomm Hulett. “It’s not a remake or a port. That’s an important distinction. It really feels like a new game.”

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a re-imagining of the first Silent Hill game and will see characters play different roles, things will happen in a different order and the story will be taken in lots of new directions. Players will remain in control of Harry Mason, and he'll still be looking for his daughter, but other familiar elements have been "twisted to betray your expectations".

Player actions will actually affect how the game unfolds, with the game constantly monitoring your behaviour to determine when you'll meet certain characters and which scenes you'll witness. Controls will be handled through the Wii Remote, used to interact directly with the environment, with puzzles all based on that idea.

“You’re not just hitting buttons to choose things,” said Hulett, who added that puzzle solutions are always in the immediate vicinity and that the game will feature much less backtracking than previous games in the series.

Another big change is that there will be no more locked doors that simply cannot be opened. In Shattered Memories there will be a way through every locked door.

I agree with the two last poster in this topic.

Big Silent hill fan but it has gone of the boil slightly and this should reignight my interest.

This should be fun if it is done right. It would also add a lot of replay value to the game.

“One of Shattered Memories’ most significant and intriguing additions—your answers actually affect how the game unfolds. And it doesn’t end there. the game “watches” you constantly, and your behavior throughout can determine when you’ll meet certain characters, which scenes you’ll witness, and a variety of other factors.” “In Silent Hill games, the town always gets inside the protagonist’s head,” say Hulett. “But now, it’s getting inside YOUR head.”
If they get this even halfway right, this will be THE single most exciting development in games for a very long time. Left 4 Dead's AI Director adds significantly to the fun factor in that game, but this has the potential to be so much more.

I was never really into Silent Hill, but I will be watching this one closely.

And of course, no combat, that's right, NO combat.
