Ubisoft's Red Steel 2 is a follow-up to a successful Wii launch title and was well received by critics. The recipe for success then, or so Ubisoft must have thought.

According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, Red Steel 2 sold only 50,000 copies in the US during March.

The figure has also been confirmed by Ubisoft, but the publisher wishes to see how the title fairs over a full month before judging its performance.

"Considering that the NPD sales only accounted for 12 days on the store shelves and that NPD doesn't include all retailers we are looking forward to a complete month of sales data to see where we stand," a Ubisoft rep told Kotaku.

However, the game's creative director went on record last summer, stating the game's reliance on Wii MotionPlus was a risk.

"It's a huge risk. We have no idea what the penetration rate for Wii MotionPlus will be. We assume high. We would like it to be high," he said.

Back in January Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced the publisher had halved its sales expectations for the game, down from one million to 500,000.

The motion plus that is a must to play it means another £20 & then the game or £50 for pack & tbh after playin a bit round a friends house its not got the same captivating story as the original & the extra cost just isn't worth it as i found what i played just like a soul caliber not a gd story / shooter /slash em up game.
