In a week which saw the Wii enter the market, it's still the old hats that continue to dominate the chart. FIFA 07 makes it three weeks straight at the top, and with the Christmas chart arriving next week, could the bookmakers who pegged Need for Speed Carbon as Xmas favourite be proven wrong?
In the chasing pack comes Need for Speed Carbon, followed by Pro Evolution Soccer 6, Call of Duty 3 and the week's highest new entry in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii. Always likely to be the top Wii game at launch, Twilight Princess sold to two thirds of all Wii buyers.
It's not just Zelda which makes the chart from the Wii stable, with several other Wii games making the Top 40. Wii Play, helped by the bundled Wii Remote, enters at No.9, Red Steel comes in at No.19 and Rayman Raving Rabbids charted at No.30.
As expected, Happy Feet makes a move up the chart from No.18 to No.11, helped by the Wii release, but more so by the movie promotion. Project Gotham Racing 3 also shoots up the chart from No.36 to No.22, thanks largely to promotional bundles. Yoshi's Island DS almost doubles sales in its second week, but can still only manage No.36.
With the release conveyor belt almost over for another year, next week sees the Christmas number one announced. It's likely to be a battle between FIFA 07, Need for Speed Carbon and Pro Evolution Soccer 6, but outsiders such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (apparently out for GameCube on Friday) could make a last gasp dash for the top.
