Far Cry 2 generated sales of 2.9 million

Ubisoft also revealed solid sales for Far Cry 2, Rabbids TV Party and Prince of Persia.

Yesterday Ubisoft reported its sales for the third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2008. Sales for the third quarter of 2008-09 came to €508 million, up 12.9% compared with the €450 million recorded for the same period of 2007-08.

Third-quarter sales came in slightly higher than the guidance of approximately €500 million issued when Ubisoft released its sales figures for the second quarter of 2008-09. This has been attributed to a variety of factors, notably the solid sales performance of key franchise titles.

Ubisoft revealed that third-quarter sales highlights included Far Cry 2 and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party which generated "sell-in" sales of 2.9 million and 1.5 million units respectively. The publisher also stated that these sales offset the impact of a slower "take-off" for Prince of Persia (2.2 million units).

Other highlights included Shaun White Snowboarding which was the quarter's No.1 sports game in the US and recorded 2.3 million unit sales worldwide. Ubisoft also pointed towards the ongoing success of the casual games label, notably the "very robust performance" of the Imagine range, including Imagine Teacher and Imagine Wedding Designer.

Yahtzee on Zero Punctuation summed it up perfectly by saying it was like biting into what you thought was going to be a tasty sandwich only to discover it was filled with just margarine and vitamin pills. I know one guy who has it and got bored very early in, and some guys on another forum, almost all of whom say they just didn't like it really. I agree with you Kiro, the technology driving the whole thing is remarkable, but the actual game itself is so boring. Funnily enough, in the marketing Ubisoft didn't reveal that you probably spend more time driving and looking at a map than you do shooting. Not to mention that the shooting itself feels so inaccurate and awkward. At least give it a few days before the guards are back. Shame really, that really spoiled the game for me and if it wern't for that and the dumb A.I it would have been a real great game. Reply
