SEGA has announced Tournament of Legends, a new project in partnership with developer High Voltage Software (The Conduit) coming exclusively to Wii in May 2010.

Tournament of Legends, formerly known as Gladiator A.D., promises a 3D fighting experience for one or two players, featuring a host of fighters based on legends from world mythology: the Minotaur, a powerful Gladiator, a mighty Valkyrie and other well known characters.

Players will take these fighters to epic battles in fighting arenas where the combatants wield legendary weapons, launch magical attacks and dodge giant mythological creatures that protect their lairs.

Described as a rich weapon fighting experience, players will be able to switch weapons and enchantments with other characters, and compete in various challenges including having to dodge giant mythological creatures. The game will also feature an interactive training mode.

In addition to Wii Remote and Nunchuck control schemes, players can choose to battle using Nintendo's Classic Controller.

The game's built on High Voltage Software's Quantum 3 engine, specially designed and optimised for Wii. This has allowed the studio to create large 3D mythological fighters, made to appear more realistic thanks to advanced real-time lighting, blended animation and cinematic colour curves.

"Tournament of Legends is bringing a unique concept to Wii," said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director at SEGA Europe. "Facing off against these legendary characters is a powerful experience, while dual wielding the Wii Remote and Nunchuck makes arena fighting more intuitive and the face-off with your friends even more competitive!"

Tournament of Legends is set to release in May 2010 exclusively for Wii.
