Donkey Kong Country Returns Features for Wii

Tom Orry, Editor - Harms Way, Xbox 360

This week I've been trying to weigh up how much price counts towards a review score. Harms Way is a completely free XBLA game - one that is very well made - but it's severely lacking content. While I didn't really want to play it for more than the four or so hours I spent reviewing it, that time didn't cost me a penny, but it did eat up my own time - which some people would argue is even more valuable. In the end, just because something's free, it doesn't mean it's worth playing. Harms Way is worth a go, but it's a very short lived experience.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, PS3, Xbox 360

Taokaka is a strange cat-lady with lengthy blonde pigtails, massive paws, and a face that merely consists of two red eyes, peering out from under an oversized hood. Arakune used to be some form of magician (I think) but is now nothing more than a big purple blob with a face mask. Taokaka and Arakune are characters in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, the latest game from Arc Systems. When they meet each other in a pre-fight cutscene, they try to have a conversation: Arakune can only speak in fractured gibberish, while Taokaka substitutes the word "meow" for "me" at every available opportunity - as in, "I think you're making fun of meow." It's a wonderfully odd moment, and the game itself is pretty damn good, too. Expect our review next week.

Martin Gaston, Staff Writer - Halo: Reach, 360

Addiction has been all the rage this week, hasn't it? If you're a certain type of gamer - one with a built-in OCD trigger and unwavering completionistic tendencies - Halo: Reach's daily and weekly challenges are chuffing brilliant. Seriously. I have a window opened to Bungie.net right now, and I'm genuinely quite annoyed that one of today's four challenges involves playing Firefight. Boo. I don't really like playing Firefight with randoms over matchmaking, but I will almost certainly spend an hour or two working on it.

Unlike Black Ops' frivolous (but still entertaining) Contracts, Bungie has made it so accomplishing these challenges is actually a central part of the game - they're one of the easiest ways to grab significant wads of XP. And I'm seriously excited about the fact that tonight I will be able to afford a new hat. I've been eyeing up World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, too, but judging from my addiction to Halo playing an MMO would probably kill me.

Jamin Smith, Staff Writer – Final Fantasy XIII, PS3

After a three month break, I've finally got back into Final Fantasy XIII. Returning to Cocoon was bewildering at first; I had no idea what I was doing or where I was heading. Given the weight placed on story and characterisation, this was something I needed to put right. My first twenty minutes or so were spent in the menus, trawling through the Datalog to familiarise myself with the events leading up to that point. This was less of a chore than I initially thought it would be. There's so much history, politics and inter-weaving storylines, that merely reading about the game was good fun. I'm approaching the thirty hour mark now, and incredibly glad I took another punt at a game that I really struggled to get on with the first time round. Perhaps I should go back to The Last Remnant at some point, too...

Emily Gera, Staff Writer - World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, PC

World of Warcraft is the most fun you can have while on your way to developing serious deep vein thrombosis, so if you don't hear from me next week it's likely because I've died. Which will be a shame considering I already poured my money into a monthly subscription. Is it too much to demand Blizzard send me some sort of live-in nurse or a Blizzard office temp who I can use as a footstool?

Just finished Force Unleashed 2 and I have changed my mind - it's absolute dog sh!t. A storyline so bad that it makes 'The Phantom Menace' look absolutely stunning. Really repetative levels and enemies, terribly boring boss battles and very little else (even the sound levels are all over the place). Awful game!

Finished Vanquish - absolutely loved it.
Just started SW:FU2 - only on the second level but so far I'm actually enjoying it - was expecting it to be a lot worse than it is! (but it is early days!)

It's purely because of your infectious love for the game that I want to get back into it. If I clear my backlog over Crimbo, I'll get to it. Promise.

You should of ordered it off GAME. During the week they were selling it for £22.99 for both X360 & PS3 including the limited edition. I think they are now selling it for £24.99.

Compulsive buying once again won a somewhat 5min bloody battle to buy the game for £22.99. So don't be afraid of sending a friend request to get your times absolutely destroyed. :) Might as well set the competitive ball rolling.

@Jamin: take 2 months off and finish The Last Remnant (make sure you install it to HDD first). Whilst Final Fantasy VII had a huge impact on me way back when, TLR beat it and then some in terms of how its characters still live on in my memory long after playing the game. It's 200 hours+ if you want to nail everything.

For me this week has been mostly Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy (on Facebook) and I picked up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for £29.99 on a random visit to Toys R Us this weekend, so a bit of that. Autolog reminds me I should really get around to adding more people from Videogamer.com to my friends list on the 360, so watch out for invites.

Black Ops - Started the campian on veteran, seems a fair bit harder than Modern Warfare 2 was. A couple of forum nights has taken me up to rank 46 on multiplayer, still loving it and it's proved successful in preventing me from playing much of Reach.

Pac Man - Can't express how much this game has surprised me. I had absolutely no interest in it when I first heard about it. But after reading a couple of reviews and the Staff Vs Forum thread I decided I better give it a go. Great game. It's a superb take on the original idea and it's highly addicting. Pearson, you better watch out!

Assassins Creed 2 - I remember finding the original to monotonous, but this was has far more character, and is actually a cracking game.

Pac-man C.E. DX - Everything that is great about this game has already been said, all I can say is that my eyes will never see properly ever again.

Not as much as I'd like this week.

GT5 - 31 lap Nascar online is a lot of fun.

Race Driver Grid - Which I had found quite difficult for the 2 odd hours I played it. The drift races are pretty easy though...

PES 2010 - Far more enjoyable with a mate in the same room. The online sucks balls though.

Crash Course - Uncomplicated but forces multiple "just one more" attempts.

Black Ops - I'm slowly playing this less and less which is both a good and bad thing: Good because I can actually play other games. Bad because I'm really enjoying playing it at the moment.

StarCraft 2 - This week, I've been getting some campaign achievements, so that has kept me entertainedm still loving the RTS goodness.

Splinter Cell Conviction: Still enjoying this, fast paced action and is probably si my 11th most enjoyed GOTY

This week I've been playing... umm... hang on a minute... OH YEH, that's it. VVVVVV. Nearly found all my friends, but I've only got half the trinkets and there's loads left to explore. Unfortunately I can't find out where to go next :( I'm warming to the idea of digitally distributed indie games that are two clicks away thanks to Steam.
