Hands-up who regards Activision's DJ Hero as a flop? Us too, but turns out we were wrong to the tune of 1.2 million units.

"DJ Hero was dubbed a flop on its release too, but what it needed was time for its audience to find it, a price break, and positive word from both friends and reviews to circulate," wrote Activision's Dan Amrich on his blog. "October and November were soft, but after the holiday, DJ Hero had hit about 800,000 units; today it's 1.2 million units and counting, all of which come with a turntable controller. That’s not a flop; that's the long tail at work."

That's a pretty solid user base ready and waiting - with a turntable controller - for this year's DJ Hero 2.

I thought this might happen. Sure, it has the 'Hero' branding, but it's a different market and that branding will mean less to them and so the sale would be through word of mouth and in-store demos rather than just straight up marketing. I'm sure stores have taken quite a loss on it though; selling it at like £40 to clear space.

Definitely the best music based game I've played and can be got quite cheap now as well. The original price was way too much. Some of the mixes, I believe they're called, are awesome.
