According to a recent job advertisement placed on Linked in, EA's Visceral Games studio has begun pre-production work on Dead Space 2 for Xbox 360 and PS3, with full production expected to begin in the next few months.

"Seeking a highly motivated Lead combat designer for the Dead Space franchise on Xbox360 and PS3," stated the ad.

The add also revealed that the game is currently "in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months".

Dead Space received a very warm reception on its release last autumn, but was not a huge commercial success. Despite this, the job advertisement reveals "the Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP", which is very encouraging for fans.

Dead Space is out now for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. A prequel, Dead Space: Extraction on Wii, hit stores last week.

Yea Dead Space was one of the only real survival horror games this generation so far. It really made you feel stranded with little to no hope.

Finally a Dead Space 2. I remember discussing its would-be plot in EA's forum right after I played through DS last year. I wonder if the protagonist would still be Issac (I heard he's not dead, yet).

I believe there're still number of fans out there drooling for a sequel, even the release date would probably be around 2011.

It'd be difficult for EA to develop DS2 to surpass its predecessor though, for it's already a masterpiece. I picked up DS again last week, trying to collect all the trophies, and it still scared the sh*t out of me...

Well it wasn't an established franchise before, but now it's had a cartoon film, Wii game etc.
So EA clearly wanted to see if it had legs first or do something else. Similar to TV with pilots.

hmm, they're starting production a bit late. I think EA will be smart and make this Q1 2011; 2010 is way too busy already, and half of that will be EA's stuff anyway :P

*****the bed! I still got the first Dead Space to get through. This is more and enough to get the game playing and finish it before the second one comes out!

Knowing me other games will pop up and be in the way

I'm suprised that this is only at pre production stage - I actually thought with how well the first one was recieved that they would've started on the sequel almost right away!

They gotta include motion control for the ps3, they just have to. Maybe make it optional or something because it would just be so awesome.
