WipEout 2048 Features for PS Vita

On: PS Vita

My adventures in Skyrim took a slight backseat this week as the PS Vita took over my evening gaming. As I type this I've only just got hold of some full games, so I've been getting my next-gen handheld fix through a selection of demos. Most impressive are WipEout 2048 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss, although the latter could well suffer from an excess of touch and tilt controls. I also had a surprising amount of fun with the Sony's WarioWare imitator Frobisher Says, which presents a series of quick-fire mini-games - although the way the game says "Frobisher says" at the start of each challenge is by far the most amusing aspect.

I am less impressed with Gravity Rush, which has gained a fair bit of attention due to being from Keiichiro Toyama, the man behind the original Silent Hill and the Siren games. This is nothing like those titles, instead offering some gravity manipulation and some hack 'n' slash-style fighting. Maybe the demo doesn't sell it well, but it was only the comic-book-style cutscenes that left a good impression.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor – X-COM: Enemy Unknown (the original one), PC, PS1

This week I was utterly thrilled by the revelation that Firaxis is developing another XCOM game – a turn-based strategy affair to go sit alongside 2K's troubled FPS reboot thing. And when I say "utterly thrilled", I really do mean that I started yelping with delight, expressing in amorphous whoops and gibbers what I could not with real words.

XCOM, man. Or rather, X-COM – as I'm a pedant and a veteran fan, I still insist on using the hyphen. In any case, it's a useful way to distinguish between the old games and the new ones.

The Firaxis reboot is exciting because it seems that the developers understand what made the early games so good – the challenge, the uncertainty, and above all else the spontaneous drama that unfolds as your puny troops risk their lives in desperate battle against foes who are meaner, more accurate, and better equipped. In response, I inevitably loaded up the old game for the umpteenth time. And you know what? The graphics may look like Lego, but it's still gold.

If you're still unfamiliar with the original series, take a gander at this fan-made Let's Play. It's geeky as anything, but it's also pretty funny, and gives a good sense of how the game can get its claws into you.

Emily Gera, Staff Writer - Assassins Creed: Revelations, Xbox 360

Surprise, surprise. I actually took a break from Star Wars: The Old Republic to give Assassin's Creed: Revelations a go. Still quite early on in the playthrough so far but seemingly every other mission functions as a mini-game that tries to make use of a new, bizarre piece of equipment or random genre. That includes guitar playing, hand-gliding, and tower defence. All and all an odd game, and Desmond is looking increasingly like Adam Sandler to me, but it's not totally detestable. You can use that for your next box quote, Ubisoft.

Played some MW3, and im not half way through prestige 1, also this time around ive been using the CM901 with hybrid sight, its kick ass.

Me and my friends have also been playing fifa 12, raising out pro club, but we are now playing people who are pretty much the same quality as us so some matches can be really close which can be great.

and finally, been playing some forza 4, brought myself a gumpet apollo s which im keeping at its current level rather than raising it so i can race in the R3 races. Next buy is the Ferrari 599xx for R1 car.

I've been crazy busy the past week with work and house renovation work but I did manage to get in a few games on Fifa 12, and got promoted to division 6 which is as lofty a height as I've been in that.

I had a couple of last minute equalisers, one being a 20 yard screamer which was highly satisfying to take the game to 4-4, quite the game. It was a most pleasant experience to play a game without major bugs for a change.

Still on Skyrim protest until the patch is out for the PS3...

I completed The Saboteur 100% last night; a task I have been meaning to do since first getting the game upon launch, but could never quite muster the enthusiasm before. Rather enjoyed it, except for the excessive freeroam events (as detailed in the thread made for the discussion of such topic).

The only other game to see play has been Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, with which Ghost 5, a firned of his, and myself played on the insanest of difficulties, with a death on average every 20 seconds or so (apiece), all for the sake of a single achievement. Was fun, though! ;)

Very much looking forward to revisiting Saints Row:The Third this week, with the upcoming Genki Bowl XVII DLC pack.

Not sure when the week starts so last night I hit Rank 45 on Battlefield 3 as again this has been the main game this week.
Got involved in my first bit of teabagging which I'm not proud of but was worth it. When someone is untouchable on the other team and your squad mates steels his dog tags how do you better it? Well your entire squad tea bags. He then spawned and killed us all but well done to him as he didn't drop to our level.
Also got to play some Blur on Monday and I really enjoyed it. Was a shame when my mate had to take it home with him, but I will look to picking this up next month.

I completed Rage which I enjoyed on the whole but the 2nd half just feels like it is about to get going when it ends.

I think I've got 1 race left for my debut season on F1 2010. Yet to decide who to sign with for next season. I don't follow the sport so I'm not quite sure who is the best team from my offers.

And I put on Back to the Future for a little look and that little look has seen me complete Episode 1 and make a start on the 2nd.

81 is a bit odd, but now I think about it, the level does sort of have to be a product of all the skill levels. Only my archery is at level 100, so I've stopped using bows for a bit.

Next I'm going to just chill out and do some alchemy, smithing and enchanting. Breezehome is just full of stuff that I will never use, so I might as well throw some Nirnroot at a wall and see what happens.

I haven't played much this week, moving house in 2 weeks and we're downsizing from a 3 bed semi-detached with a garage and huge garden to a 2 bedroom flat. So lots of stuff to organise!

I played a little Skyrim though ;) Level cap is theoretically 81 so we're told. You would basically need every skill to 100 to do it. I currently sat at 100, archery, 100 light armour, 100 smithing, 100 conjuring, 100 blocking, 100 sneaking, very nearly 100 one hand. Then I'll move on to two hand, then some more magic :)

62??!! The cap isn't 50? What is the cap?

Umm, I'm just playing Skyrim these days, with occasional Street Fighter IV session with the bros.

Actually started Skyrim the other day. I can see why others find it so addictive (note the proper use of the word, not addicting. Grr). Aside from that, a little Saints Row and some Mario Kart 7 and the obvious pile of iOS games.
