Is Capcom working on a new Darkstalkers game?

Publisher registers a new trademark which suggests it might be.

Capcom has sparked speculation that it is working on a new game in the Darkstalkers fighting franchise, following the registration of a new Darkstalkers trademark with the European Union trademarks office.

Last year Capcom's fighting game producer Yoshinori Ono said he had received 100,000 requests from fans asking for a new Darkstalkers game, but nothing official regarding a new title has ever come from the publisher's mouth.

While we haven't seen any new games in the series since 2004's Darkstalkers Chronicle on PSP, the series has been showing its face via the PSN release of Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors and the appearance of Felicia, Morrigan and Hsien-Ko in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Darkstalkers X Bloody Roar? make it so! ;)

It's not overly surprising, all through the development cycle for sfxt people have been clamouring for information on it and ono-san has said several times that he's always approaching the big wigs with the idea but not gotten anywhere.

This seems quite likely, as shown by Capcom's love for fighting games as of late, but in that case I would also like to see a return of rival schools... Just because.

Oh god, I hope so. Definately a fighting franchise that could do with some Capcom love. Hopefully it will just be the DarkStalker characters and not a mash-up of other licenses. Fingers crossed.
