Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror takes the series back to its roots, staring Gabe Logan and Lian Xing, with the story having nothing to do with the Syphon Filter virus. Logan runs a small agency that specializes in "Precision strikes," the missions that the military and standard intelligence agents won't touch. The game begins with Gabe and Lian on a routine mission, but Gabe uncovers evidence that simply doesn't add up. The story from here on looks to be full of more twists and turns than even Jack Bauer could handle.

One of the most exciting aspects of Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is the inclusion of multiplayer gameplay, with support for eight players via infrastructure (local wireless) and six players using Ad Hoc (online play). Game modes include your normal Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, together with Rogue Agent and an all new Objective mode. The online play will feature many community features, including rankings, friends lists and cell (clans).

The game will also include downloadable content and a lot of unlockables. Finish a level in the story mode and this level will then be unlocked to play through in the mission mode. Here you are challenged with re-playing the level in order to achieve Agency Rating. There are six ratings, each with four grades, giving a sum total of 24. Each rating comes with a reward, such a new weapon or ability. Other unlockables include concept art, movies, audio tracks, and bonus missions, one of which finally closes the open-ended finale of The Omega Strain.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is expected for release in spring 2006.
