Disney Interactive Studios has announced that Split/Second, the explosive racing title from Black Rock Studio, will be released for PSP this holiday season.

The game takes place within a reality television show with city-sized sets rigged for destruction. Each track has numerous power plays that can be strategically triggered by skilled drivers to take out other competitors.

"Split/Second: Velocity has become a hit with fans of racing and action games, and is the perfect fit for the PSP system," said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. "The explosive track altering features and fast arcade racing will have PSP system players worldwide playing it on-the-go or at home."

Split/Second: Velocity for the PSP will include unique handling and controls designed specifically for Sony's handheld, plus an exclusive new track and challenges not found in the current versions. There'll be multiplayer action too, with support for up to four-players on local a local wireless connection.

This version of the game is being made by Sumo Digital who are well known for their driving game experience with the Outrun series, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and F1 2009 so I have faith this will be good.

I wonder if the game really was a hit saleswise. Most retailers here in germany have already cut the price in half for 360 and PS3, Amazon reduced the price as well.
