Following the BBFC's decision to refuse Manhunt 2 a certificate, Rockstar was given six weeks to lodge an appeal. The software developer and publisher left it to the wire, but has now lodged a plea with the Video Appeals Committee.

"Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. confirmed today that Rockstar Games has appealed the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) decision that prohibited the release of any version of Manhunt 2 in Britain," reads a statement issued by Rockstar yesterday.

The Video Appeals Committee has the power to overturn the BBFC's decision, which would see the game given the green light to go on sale in the UK. The VAC will now set a date for a hearing to decide the game's future.

Alternatively Rockstar could take a look at Pro-G's Ten Step Plan to Rescue Manhunt 2.

I think Rockstar have to get an 18 Certificate; anything higher, like R18 in the UK or AO in the USA and console manufacturers will refuse to let it run on their systems because they won't touch Adult Only games. In the USA especially, most retailers will refuse to have AO games on their shelves, which would severely limit Rockstar's sales.

It's hard for us to make a judgement on this because we haven't seen the game, only the BBFC has. Personally I hate being nannied by the state because being 40 years old I think I can make my own mind up about content and whether or not I'll be affected by it.

On the flipside to this, I hate seeing young children playing, or watching being played, 18-rated games, and many shops are so lax in who they sell to and many parents still don't understand why games have age ratings that if the BBFC caved in and gave it an 18 due to pressure you can guarantee there'll be 10 year olds playing it on release day.

Speaking of which, my sis was in Game a couple of days ago with my nephew who is 12. She got a 3 for the price of 2 offer, one of which was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Game happily sold it to her with my nephew standing right there at the counter next to her without asking any questions.

I realise that shop employees shouldn't have to give every customer the 3rd degree, and I'm more miffed at my sis for buying a 12 year old this type of game, but still, I was surprised it was so easy.

The sooner this game is released the better if they are so concerned why don't they make it a 21 but it can't be any worse than any of the resident evil games or gran theft auto series or scarface just to name a few so the BBFC needs to get there act together
