The BBFC is to reconsider the banning of Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 following a majority decision made by the Video Appeals Committee in favour of Rockstar Games.

"The BBFC will carefully study the judgement by the Video Appeals Committee when it becomes available," said David Cooke, Director of the BBFC. "The BBFC exercises great vigilance and care in ensuring that all violent games which are submitted to us are correctly classified. Our decisions are based on published guidelines, which are the result of very wide public consultation."

Cooke also notes that the decision to deny Manhunt 2 a classification was not taken easily, with the board playing the game for "well over 30 hours prior to discussion".

A censored version of Manhunt 2 was granted a Mature rating in North America, allowing the game to go on sale. Whether or not the Rockstar Games appeal will change the BBFC's decision to refuse the controversial title a classification remains to be seen.
