PGR4 headlines this week's new releases

Welcome to Heads-up, Pro-G's weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Tuesday we'll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday's post. Time to splash the cash.

Most anticipated this week is likely to be Microsoft and Bizarre Creations' Project Gotham Racing 4, possibly the last game in the series as we currently know it. The game's bigger and better than ever before, with new cars, cities, modes and weather conditions, and includes motorbikes for the first time. Although in our eyes it falls just short of Halo 3's brilliance, PGR4 is yet another triple A title well worth owning an Xbox 360 for.

Sony's biggest new release of the week isn't a new video game, but rather a new version of its PlayStation 3. The curvaceous console made its European debut in March and on October 10 will be available some £125 cheaper than early adopters were asked to pay. It's certainly an aggressive move from Sony and one which is sure to spark heightened interest in the PS3 as the Christmas season approaches.

Those of you looking for a new title to accompany your new PS3 or simply expand your existing collection should take a look at Game Republic's Folklore. Set in the realm of Netherworld, players embark on an adventure full of mystical creatures whose powers can be captured and harnessed by the player.

This year the PSP is the only place gamers will be able to experience a new title in the Star Wars Battlefront series. Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is released on Friday and tells the previously untold story of a ragtag ensemble of battle-hardened rogues and scoundrels assembled by Han Solo. We're promised a complete single-player mission mode, plus fully-featured online play for up to 16 players.
