Welcome to Heads-up, VideoGamer.com's weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you'll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Time to splash the cash.

Many weeks after the PC and Xbox 360 release, PS3 gamers can finally sink their teeth into one of the games of the year. PlayStation 3 gamers have just cause to celebrate - providing the port is up to scratch that is. Orange Box will be remembered as one of the best value video games of all time. For your £50 you'll get Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. All this should provide gamers will 25+ hours of FPS action, one of the best new puzzle titles in recent times and the return of a multiplayer classic.

As one of the games that put gaming on the radar of more than just children, the Wipeout franchise has a fine heritage and Pulse, the second title for PSP, brings a host of new circuits, vehicles and weapons, plus an all-new online mode. Let's not forget the fully licensed soundtrack featuring big names in dance music such as Mason, Loco Dice and Stanton Warriors. Wipeout Pulse looks to deliver the ultimate in high-octane racing experiences for the gamer on the move.

The Golden Compass screenshot

Based on the upcoming motion picture of the same name, The Golden Compass is releasing on PC and PSP just in time for Christmas. Players assume the role of Lyra, a young girl, along with her daemon Pantalaimon. Gamers will also control Byrnison, a great armoured polar bear who battles to protect Lyra during their journey. Expect to see characters from the movie brought to life with likenesses of the movie's cast, including Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel and newcomer Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra.

Based on the CG animated motion picture from Robert Zemeckis - I highly recommend readers to check out a 3D screening at the cinema - comes Beowulf The Game from Ubisoft. Developed using the technology that powered GRAW 2 the game follows much of the action from the movie, offering a short but acceptable hack 'n slash adventure. Expect to hear much of the film's cast reprise their roles and more blood than you'll see in the movie. Pretty non-stop violence and sexual themes make this one movie licensed video game not made for children.

Also new this week:
The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (Wii)
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (PSP)
