Sony has "been thinking about" how to bring back Crash Bandicoot, SCE boss Andrew House has revealed, telling fans not to "close the door" on the idea of seeing the PlayStation mascot on PS4.

Speaking to The Telegraph about the prospect of bringing back Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon, House acknowledged that discussing anything about the two characters was "very dangerous ground", but teased:

"In concept, it is something we've been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us. We've started to say that maybe there isn't anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth. I definitely wouldn't close the door on that."

Both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are currently owned by Activision, having started out on the original PlayStation under Sony.

But while Spyro has seen success under the publisher with Skylanders, Crash Bandicoot has struggled to live up to the reputation of Naughty Dog's earlier games, with an unannounced Crash title believed to have been cancelled in late 2012.

Last November, Activision said that it was continuing to "explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life".

I'd love a good crash game, and a proper spyro game away from the skylanders thing too.

The graphics of the older games don't look too bad to be honest. I think it's likely the result of the stylised look. Having said that I would be interested in seeing what they would do with a HD remake.

Although to be frank anything will be better than the most recent forays into Crash!

Start off with a HD remake of one of the earlier games on PSN for £11.99 it would sell loads. Or give free on PS+ then make a new game with same engine for a similar price.
