Watch Dogs is still the fastest-selling new IP in western Europe, not Destiny – Ubisoft

Watch Dogs remains the fastest-selling new IP in western Europe, Ubisoft has said in response to claims from Activision last week stating that Destiny had become the “biggest new video game franchise launch in history”.

In a press release highlighting today’s release of Watch Dogs’ Bad Blood DLC, Ubisoft stated: “[Watch Dogs] became the industry’s fastest-selling new IP in its first week — a record that still stands in all western European territories combined — by delivering a potent combination of action-adventure missions, seamless multiplayer modes and open-world exploration.”

Ubisoft claims that the data is based on GFK retail data as of September 14, and includes all platforms except PC within the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Benelux, Scandinavia and Austria.

Chart Track announced earlier this week that Destiny had become the fastest-selling new IP specifically within the UK.

Watch Dogs sold through 4 million copies during its first week on sale back in May, breaking industry records for a new IP. Sales figures for Destiny have yet to be announced.
