Over 6.4 million people played last week’s open beta for The Division, Ubisoft has announced, making it “the biggest beta ever for a new IP on current generation platforms”.

The beta ran from Thursday, February 18 on Xbox One, and Friday, February 19 on PS4 and PC, with the average person playing for 4 hours and 52 minutes. Over a third of that time was spent in the game’s PVP area, the Dark Zone, with just under 50% of players turning rogue.

But while it may be the biggest beta for a new IP, it isn’t the largest that’s ever taken place on current-gen consoles. Star Wars Battlefront’s multiplayer beta attracted 9.5 million players last October.

“We want to thank the millions of people who joined in on The Division’s Open Beta,” said creative director Magnus Jansen. “We hope everybody enjoyed playing, and we think the beta is going to help ensure a great launch for the game. We’re looking forward to everyone getting their hands on the full game when The Division is released on March 8th.”

The Division launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 8.
