A new unannounced gaming platform may be revealed “soon”, according to comments made by Ready at Dawn’s new CEO Paul Sams.

Sams referred to the secret new platform in interviews with both GamesIndustry.biz and Game Informer, telling the former that “since the release of The Order, we have been very hard at work to advance our engine and technology to a place where we can deliver our games on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and one other unannounced platform that you will soon find out about.”

“At the same time, we have worked very hard to make sure that our engine and technology suite is multiplatform,” he told Game Informer. “What we did on the PS4 for The Order: 1886, we can also do today on Xbox One, PC, and on an additional unannounced platform.”

Sams’ comments suggest that the new platform will at least share similar specs to Xbox One and PS4, but the manufacturer behind it remains a mystery.

It’s unlikely to be Nintendo, however, which isn’t due to reveal details on its next-gen console – the Nintendo NX – until next year. So what could Sams be referring to? Could Apple or Amazon be gearing up to enter the console space?

And could we be in for a big surprise at E3 next week?

UPDATE: Ready at Dawn has clarified its comments to Game Informer, claiming that it doesn’t know anything about a new unannounced platform and that it was simply referring to an existing platform new to the studio.

But considering Ready at Dawn has never developed for PC or Xbox One either, why did it choose to name those two platforms and not this third mystery platform…?
