The Order: 1886 will run in full 1080p but at only 30 frames per second, not the much desired next generation sweet spot of 1080p/60fps, developer Ready at Dawn has revealed.

The decision to run at only 30fps was made to ensure spectacular visuals could be created.

"Currently we do not aim [for] 60 frames per second," Ready at Dawn boss Ru Weerasuriya told German gaming website Play3 in a interview which has since been taken offline. "In a first person shooter that [surely] makes sense. Also fighting games are undoubtedly predestined for 60 frames. But for us, the cinematic experience is in the foreground [basically focus] – presented in full HD 1080p. In favour of spectacular effects and the highest resolution we restrict ourselves to a fluid 30 frames per second."

Sony's other upcoming first-party title, inFamous Second Son, also renders at 1080p and 30fps, as does the campaign mode of launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall, jumping to 60fps in multiplayer.

30fps is actually preferable in some situations. Videogamer don't know *****.

Better looking than Ryse...based on what gameplay of The Order? The cutscene / trailer from E3?

Not really no...because this game already looks way better then Ryse runs at a higher resolution, and i bet it will hold 30fps a lot better then Ryse can.

Agreed. Those black bars will get seriously annoying. In my opinion the black bars really ruin the whole "immersion factor" within games.
For some odd reason it may work for this game but I highly doubt it.
720p without the black bars would be a lot better. Maybe they could reach a higher frame rate by dropping to 720p too. That would be an added bonus/incentive for a resolution downgrade.

I think in time, developers will need to make the trade off to keep up with the moving target of PC development, they seem to be lagging behind now.

Don't get me wrong I think we will still see the sort of leap in years that we have with say the launch games of the 360/PS3 compared to later games like TLOU and GTA5, but to be fair I think current launch games like the new Killzone or Forza 5 that run 1080P/60fps are hardly examples of true next generation gaming, same old games just prettier.

60fps are obviously better and it would be cool if all games could achieve it but 30fps at 1080p can still manage pretty sweet visuals and unlike northernmonkey i think as time goes on and developers are more capable with the new hardware 60fps will eventually become the norm.... hopefully anyway.

A shock to all of those PS4 owners thinking that all games are going to run at 1080P/60fps I would imagine.

I think as time goes on we will see this sort of trade off happen on a regular basis, which I am happy with as 1080P at 30fps for most games is fine by me as long as 30fps is capped. I would rather see bigger and more immersive worlds at 30fps, as many of the games we have seen running at 1080P/60fps on both Xbox One & PS4 up to now bring nothing new to the table that wasn't present in the last generation (or current if you like).

I kind of agree on racers tho, 60fps does make a difference.

A bit disappointing, I had been hoping that 60fps would become standard this gen, but that's yet to happen. Still as long as it actually looks nice and the gameplay holds up it wont be the biggest issue.

It just is nice to have things in 60fps. Of course I can have the exact same fun with 30fps but having it a bit smoother in 60fps would be the ideal.
And it depends on the Game, of course. Dont try to sell me a Racing Game with 30fps.

Oh, and that 1080p is kinda not true, isn't it? Its not really 1920x1080, more like 1920x800something. That Black Bars just suck, I would even prefer having 720p without them.

Its that trade off isnt it. 1080p with 30 will look better than 720 at 60 I guess. But like JP said its down to how good the game is after all, although if it looks stunning that will obviously help sell the story and its world.

60fps isn't important to me at all. A smooth frame rate is what's important. What's more important though is how much I enjoy a game. And technical visual numbers are the last thing on my mind when it comes to enjoyment of a game or purchasing decisions.
