Ivory Tower design director Stephane Beley has said that he would “prefer not to add” any further areas to The Crew through DLC due to there “already [being] enough” for players to explore.

Speaking to EDGE about whether The Crew could expand into surrounding countries Canada and Mexico in the future, Beley said:

“At the moment I’d prefer not to add to the world. It’s already enough for players. But we’ll see what happens in the future – it won’t be Canada or Mexico, though.”

The developer does have plans to introduce additional functionality via future updates, however, including a new “exploration camera” and an option to let players create their own movies.

“We have a camera better suited for exploration in the pipeline, but it’s something we’ll update in the future. I had to decide to cut it for launch due to time constraints; development was a long run, and the baby really needed to go!

“This is really just the start, and we’ll keep updating the community with, for example, an exploration camera and the ability to create movies and things like that.”

The developer also has plans to introduce Instant Challenges for free via a future update that will let players race anyone in their game session.

“In the near future we’ll be adding Instant Challenge races as a free update,” Beley continued. “You’ll be able to do a race with anyone around you, proposing it to everyone in the session or your crew.”

As well as discussing the future, Beley also touched on The Crew’s history, revealing that the game started life under the working title ‘Route 66’ and that he had plans to include Data Stations when he first pitched the title to Ubisoft CCO Serge Hascoet seven years ago.

“Seven years ago, when I presented The Crew to Serge – at the time it was named Route 66 – the Data Stations were already in my mind,” he continued. “It’s something that’s completely natural for me, and a simple way to unlock areas.”

The Crew’s first car pack was released to Season Pass owners yesterday.
