Rock Band 4 is to receive a new expansion pack this autumn introducing synchronous online multiplayer, Harmonix has announced. With the expansion pack, players will be able to compete against other players around the world.

While a price for the expansion has yet to be announced, a spokesperson for Harmonix has told VideoGamer that the “expansion pack is a traditional paid expansion and launches later this year with two new modes as well as a host of other updates”.

Online multiplayer will be available “shortly after… for everyone who has the expansion”, Harmonix’s website says.

“As part of a continuing conversation with our community to understand what resonates with them and what they want, Harmonix consulted with some of their biggest Rock Band fans to ensure synchronous online multiplayer in Rock Band 4 is easy to use and will appeal to hard core Rock Band players,” the studio added.

Further details on the expansion pack will be revealed at E3 in June.

ION Drum Set support will also be coming to Xbox this autumn via a new Peripheral Adapter made by PDP.
